The Journey

For lovers of living geology, virgin landscapes, buried myths and ancient spiritualities. A sensory and erudite immersion in the deep layers of Egypt - where it all began.

Before the pharaohs, before even mankind, Egypt was a sea. A warm, shallow sea, populated by walking whales, dugongs, giant crocodiles, and bordered by mangrove forests. Today, the sands of Fayoum keep that memory - and whisper it to those who know how to listen.

The journey begins in Cairo, the vibrant heart of Egypt. Beneath the solemn gaze of the Giza pyramids, in the silent avenues of the Grand Museum, along the mosques, souks and Coptic alleyways, history reveals itself in all its depth: pharaonic, Islamic, Christian - intensely human.

Then come the landscapes of Fayoum, where geology speaks openly. At Wadi El-Hitan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the sands hold the trace of a vanished ocean: walking whales, fossil oysters, petrified trunks and basalt rocks tell of a submerged world 40 million years old. Here, every stone is memory, every breath of wind murmurs the past.

Finally, at the end of the desert, Siwa appears. An oasis of salt and palm trees, of silence and wisdom. Here you follow in the footsteps of Alexander the Great, who came to consult the oracle of Amun. Here you discover a people who speak a thousand-year-old language, guardians of ancient wisdom. Here, time settles, the body rests, and the soul breathes.

Day 2: In the Footsteps of the Divine Builders: Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx and Grand Egyptian Museum

Lunch Dinner
At the first light of day, you set off to discover the Giza plateau, a vast sacred necropolis erected more than 4,500 years ago on the west bank of the Nile, where the sun sets and joins the kingdom of Osiris. On foot, you explore the masterful alignment of the three great pyramids - Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure - flanked by their subsidiary pyramids dedicated to queens. Each block, weighing sometimes several tonnes, was cut with a precision that defies time. You discover how these cyclopean edifices, oriented according to the cardinal points, are linked to solar cycles and celestial constellations, in particular Orion and Sirius, guides of souls to the afterlife. Before you, the Sphinx stands watch. Half-man, half-lion, it embodies the mystery of ancient wisdom. Carved from a single limestone promontory, it is the emanation of solar power and the silent guardian of the Valley Temple, where purification rites and the passage to eternal life took place. After a lunch with local flavours, you continue your immersion at the Grand Egyptian Museum, a true gem of national memory. You discover masterpieces of pharaonic art: colossal statues, polychrome frescoes, refined jewellery, sacred papyri and the complete funerary treasure of Tutankhamun. Included visits: Pyramids of Giza, Sphinx, Grand Egyptian Museum. Accommodation: Hotel in Cairo.

Day 3: Beliefs, Civilisations and Spiritual Powers: From Coptic Cairo to the Citadel of Islam

Lunch Dinner
This morning, you plunge into the Christian and Jewish roots of Egypt in the Coptic quarter. You begin with the famous Hanging Church, a jewel of Coptic architecture literally built above a gate of the ancient Roman fortress of Babylon, with its suspended nave, cedarwood iconostasis inlaid with ivory and ancient icons telling of a faith forged in resistance and hope. Nearby, the Ben Ezra Synagogue, where according to tradition the prophet Jeremiah prayed, and where the famous Cairo Geniza was found - a secret hiding place containing more than 200,000 ancient manuscripts. Then, in the small Church of Saints Sergius and Bacchus, you walk symbolically in the footsteps of the Holy Family. The afternoon takes you to the Islamic quarter. You discover the majestic Sultan Hassan Mosque, a masterpiece of medieval religious architecture built between 1356 and 1363, with its monumental 38-metre portal, slender colonnades and central courtyard bathed in light. Opposite, the Al-Rifai Mosque, which houses the tombs of historical figures. The day ends with the imposing Citadel of Saladin, fortress raised on the Mokattam heights in the 12th century, at the heart of which rises the Mosque of Mohamed Ali. Included visits: Citadel of Saladin, Sultan Hassan Mosque, Hanging Church, Church of Saints Sergius, Ben Ezra Synagogue. Accommodation: Hotel.

Day 4: Transfer to the Fayoum Oasis: Petrified Forest and Qatrani Mountain

Lunch Dinner
This morning, you leave the bustle of Cairo and take the south-western road towards the Fayoum Oasis, the enchanting gateway of the Western Desert. After two hours of driving, the landscape transforms: urban greenery gives way to arid expanses undulating in golden light. By 4x4, you set off on an adventure through an exceptional site: Qatrani Mountain, a geological sanctuary whose strata tell a story 37 to 33 million years old. You walk through the deposits of ancient seabeds, the dried contours of vanished lakes and the scars left by long-dormant volcanoes. Listed as world palaeontological heritage, this site is considered Africa's most complete fossil record for this period. It has yielded the petrified remains of the ancestors of many contemporary animals: elephants, hippos, rhinoceroses, arboreal monkeys. Your exploration continues in the petrified forest, a vast 30 km² territory where fossilised trunks lie as vestiges of an era when a tropical forest thrived here. These trees, frozen in stone for millions of years, rise like mineral totems in an austere landscape. Lunch in the open desert before reaching the village of Tunis at the end of the day, a haven of serenity on the shores of Lake Qarun. Included visits: Petrified Forest, Qatrani Mountain, Ancient Route. Accommodation: Malak Tunis Hotel, Tunis Village.

Day 5: Fossil Adventure and Natural Splendours: Valley of the Whales, Magic Lake and Wadi El Rayan Waterfalls

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
Prepare for an exceptional day in the heart of the Western Desert, where science, nature and wonder combine. After an early breakfast, you head to the extraordinary Valley of the Whales (Wadi Al-Hitan), listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its unique palaeontological treasures. In this mineral setting from another time, you walk on the traces of a vanished ocean, the Tethys Sea. Here, nearly 40 million years ago, lived primitive species of whales - including the famous Basilosaurus and Dorudon - that still possessed hind legs: the missing link in cetacean evolution. Along the trail, you discover perfectly preserved fossils embedded in layers of ochre limestone, golden sandstone and fine shale. The open-air geological museum, subtly integrated into the landscape, plunges you into the history of evolution and the major climate changes that have shaped our planet. After this dive into the depths of time, you head to the Wadi El Rayan waterfalls, a spectacular natural site where freshwater cascades down desert rocks - a rare phenomenon in Egypt. You also explore the Magic Lake, a turquoise basin nestled at the foot of dunes whose colour changes with the light. You are captivated by the silent immensity of the undulating dunes, explored on foot or by 4x4. A Bedouin lunch in the open desert, in the shade of an acacia or facing the infinite horizon, reconnects you to the elements. Included visits: Valley of the Whales, Magic Lake, Wadi El Rayan Waterfalls.

Day 6: Journey to the Siwa Oasis - First Steps in the Heart of the Desert

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
After a long journey of approximately 9 hours through the arid landscapes of the Western Desert, punctuated by isolated villages and infinite sandy stretches, you arrive in Siwa, one of Egypt's most enchanting oases. Nestled among date palms and golden dunes, Siwa immediately captivates with its quiet beauty and timeless atmosphere. Check-in at the hotel, then lunch in a restful setting, often accompanied by local specialities based on olives, dates or garden vegetables. In the afternoon, a stroll through the centre of the oasis: you discover on foot the peaceful alleyways lined with houses made of kershef (a mixture of salt and earth), craft shops and shaded cafés. You then visit the old village of Shali, a ruined fortress built in the 13th century in salted earth, once the beating heart of community life. From its heights, the view encompasses the entire oasis between palm groves and distant mountains. At the end of the day, departure to the mythical Fatnas Island on the shores of a salt lake. This is where you settle to contemplate an unforgettable sunset, where the sky blazes above the calm waters and palm silhouettes. Accommodation: Hotel.

Day 7: Exploring Siwa - Between Ancient Ruins and Sea of Sand

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
After breakfast under the palm trees, the day begins with an ascent of the Mountain of the Dead (Gebel el-Mawta), a small hill dotted with rock-cut tombs from the Ptolemaic and Roman eras. From above, the panoramic view over the oasis, palm groves and salt lakes conveys the harmony between desert and life. Next, one of Siwa's most symbolic places: the Temple of the Oracle of Amun, a thousand-year-old sanctuary housing the famous coronation room of Alexander the Great. It is here, in this mystical sun-drenched place, that the Macedonian conqueror was recognised as the son of Zeus-Amun. After a lunch with local flavours, the afternoon invites freshness and restoration: a swim in the famous Cleopatra's Spring, a natural basin of clear, warm water. Then a stop at the salt lakes of Siwa, crystalline jewels set in the desert, whose mineral-rich waters allow effortless floating in a surreal silver and blue setting. At the end of the day, a 4x4 adventure in the Great Sand Sea, an ocean of dunes undulating to the horizon. Stops to discover the cold lake, a small miracle of fresh water in the desert, then a relaxing dip in a natural hot spring (well no. 1). You also explore a fossil excavation zone, a striking testament to when the sea covered these lands. The experience ends with sandboarding on the dunes, followed by a magical sunset as Siwa tea steams gently in the glasses. Included visits: Mountain of the Dead, Temple of Oracle of Amun, Cleopatra's Spring, Salt Lakes, Great Sand Sea. Accommodation: Hotel.

Day 8: Return to Cairo - Transfer to the Airport

Breakfast
Last moments in the desert. After breakfast, you take the road back to Cairo. The desert sand still clings to your shoes, the glare of mirages still dances in your eyes, and the wind of Siwa whispers its farewells. Transfer to Cairo International Airport. The end of this adventure. But perhaps, deep within you, something has changed - an ancient clarity, a new peace.
