The Journey

Sailing the Nile aboard a dahabieh means choosing the very essence of a confidential, gentle and poetic Egypt. Heir to the majestic princely sailing vessels of the 19th century, this human-scale boat - between 6 and 15 comfortable cabins, all with private bathrooms - offers a subtle blend of old-world charm, discreet refinement and modern comfort.

On board, every detail celebrates the art of living on the Nile: finely sculpted woodwork, light fabrics dancing in the wind, a shaded deck terrace inviting rest and contemplation. The silence of the sails filled by the breeze, the attentiveness of a caring crew, the slow rhythm of the water: everything invites you to let go and fully live the present moment.

Here, true luxury is savoured in simplicity: a fragrant tea at sunset, mooring on a wild bank, a stroll among the palm trees, or the simple pleasure of watching the fertile banks and villages drift gently past.

The cuisine reflects the journey: simple, fresh and authentic, prepared each day from carefully chosen local produce. Cultural visits are designed to respect the sites and preserve their magic - held at the gentlest hours, early morning or late afternoon, away from the crowds, to offer an intimate and unforgettable experience of temples and landscapes.

The dahabieh is not just a boat: it is a way of travelling, a return to the source, a breath of eternity on the sacred waters of the Nile.

Itinerary

Day 1: Embarkation - Navigation to Kom Ombo - Temple of Sobek

Lunch Dinner
On arrival in Aswan, you are gently transferred to the port where your dahabieh awaits, riding at anchor on the calm waters of the Nile. The smiling and attentive crew welcomes you warmly on board. You are invited to discover your cabin, an intimate haven of comfort with discreet air conditioning, private bathroom and carefully arranged storage. After settling in, a refined lunch is served on deck as the dahabieh gently casts off its moorings. A timeless navigation begins: the Nile stretches like a peaceful mirror, bordered by swaying palm trees, ochre earth villages and mango orchards bathed in golden light. The boat moors at Kom Ombo, at the foot of a temple unique in Egypt. Built on the bank of the Nile in the Ptolemaic era, this sanctuary is dedicated to two opposing but complementary gods: Sobek, crocodile god of the waters and fertility, and Haroeris, a form of Horus, god of light and healing. The temple is perfectly symmetrical: two entrances, two halls, two sanctuaries, reflecting the balance between opposing forces. On its walls you discover medical bas-reliefs showing scalpels, forceps and hooks, as well as a Nilotic calendar carved in stone. Nearby, a small museum houses mummified crocodiles venerated in antiquity. After this fascinating visit, you return to the boat. The sails unfurl again and navigation resumes gently along the Nile in the golden light of the day's end. Included visits: Temple of Kom Ombo.

Day 2: Gebel Silsila Quarry - Bassaw Island - Temple of Edfu

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
Early morning, the dahabieh resumes its navigation. As the sun rises gently, breakfast is served on deck, rocked by the silence of the river. The banks of the Nile drift past slowly: palm trees, green fields, bathing buffalo, awakening villages. The boat soon moors at Gebel el-Silsila, where sandstone cliffs frame the Nile. You set off on foot to explore this ancient quarry site, from which blocks were extracted for the great temples of Luxor and Kom Ombo. In the mineral calm of the place, you discover tool marks, carved steles and the history of a site that was both a workplace and a sacred space. After the quarry visit, the dahabieh resumes its route north. In the afternoon, you moor at the small island of Bassaw, discreetly nestled among reeds and mango trees. You set off on foot through this peaceful island with its authentic charm. Bassaw is a Nubian village vibrating with colours, children's laughter and the smell of warm bread from clay ovens. The inhabitants welcome you with that simple and profound hospitality of river people. After this warm human encounter at Bassaw, you head to Edfu, where the majestic temple of Horus stands. One of the best-preserved temples in Egypt, built in the Ptolemaic era, it rises on the very spot where, according to legend, Horus triumphed over his uncle Seth. Behind the great sculpted pylon, a vast courtyard, majestic columns and shadowed halls full of mystery. The walls unfold ritual scenes and hieroglyphs: sacred processions, offerings, priestly secrets and the glory of the falcon god. After the visit, the dahabieh continues to the village of El Hegz. Dinner and night on board in the quiet of a Nile village where time seems suspended. Included visits: Temple of Edfu.

Day 3: Heading to Elkab - At the Origins of the Sacred Kingdoms

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
After a quiet breakfast on board, rocked by the gentleness of the Nile, navigation continues towards Elkab. The desert banks unfold, dotted with solitary palm trees and sleeping villages. On arrival, a short vehicle journey leads to the heart of this majestic site, political and religious capital of Upper Egypt in the 4th millennium BC. Between stone ramparts, forgotten sanctuaries and a necropolis suspended on the hillside, Elkab reveals its secrets. You explore the tombs carved in the New Kingdom era: their reliefs and inscriptions, still admirably preserved, testify to the power of the notables who rest there. Back on board, a lunch fragrant with Nile flavours accompanies the resumption of navigation towards El Hegz. In the evening, dinner under a star-filled sky and a peaceful night on board as the river, silent, continues its eternal course. Included visits: Elkab tombs and site.

Day 4: End of Cruise - Return to Luxor

Breakfast
At dawn, the nascent light caresses the peaceful waters. You share a last breakfast on board as the dahabieh continues its silent navigation to Esna. The morning air carries that melancholy softness that belongs to journey's end. Then comes the moment of farewells: a last knowing look exchanged with the crew, those familiar faces who accompanied you with generosity and discretion. Hands are shaken, moved smiles appear. The Nile itself seems to hold its breath to mark your departure. Your private vehicle awaits to take you to Luxor, about fifty kilometres to the north. Along the way, the valley stretches out, scattered with palm trees and sugar cane fields. Behind you, the wake of a timeless adventure fades gently away. From this cruise, you will take away far more than images: the scent of the river, the warmth of encounters, and that precious feeling of having touched the secret soul of Egypt.
