The Journey

This unique circuit invites you to explore the archaeological treasures from Luxor to Aswan, passing through Edfu and Kom Ombo. Accompanied by a passionate French-speaking Egyptologist guide, you discover the many facets of Egypt with curiosity and depth: its thousand-year history, its mythology, its geology, and its contemporary life through visits to villages and exchanges with locals.

Sailing the Nile by felucca, peaceful and environmentally respectful, is the ideal opportunity to understand the deep bond between the Fellahs and this sacred river. Through walks along the Nile, in the fields and villages, you plunge into Egyptian daily life, as close as possible to local realities.

The deck of our feluccas, covered with comfortable mattresses and cushions, offers a warm space to relax during the day. In the evening, canvas sheets are set up to create an intimate atmosphere, with blankets available, under the starry sky. A journey that is at once simple, profound and unforgettable.

The Felucca

The felucca is a traditional Egyptian sailing vessel that has navigated the Nile for millennia. Propelled only by the wind and the skill of its sailors, it offers a slow, silent and deeply poetic way to experience the river. On board, life organises itself around the rhythm of the water: meals prepared by the cook, conversations with the crew, naps under the shade of the sail. Each evening, the felucca moors on a wild bank and the deck is transformed into a bivouac under the stars, protected by canvas and mosquito nets.

This is not luxury in the classic sense. It is something rarer: the luxury of time, simplicity and authentic contact with Egypt and its river.

After breakfast, departure for the west bank of Luxor, in the heart of mythical ancient Thebes. You discover the legendary Valley of the Kings, carved into the desert mountains. You enter three majestic tombs, true books of stone whose walls are covered with hieroglyphs and painted scenes, plunging you into the pharaoh's initiatory journey towards the afterlife. You continue with the spectacular Temple of Hatshepsut, built against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahari. This masterpiece of terraced architecture was erected by the woman-pharaoh to ensure her legitimacy and engrave her reign in stone. Through its colonnades and finely sculpted bas-reliefs, you follow the story of her rise to power and her legendary expedition to the land of Punt. On the way, a stop before the imposing Colossi of Memnon, two monumental statues nearly 18 metres high, watching over the ancient Theban necropolis for more than 3,000 years. Return to your hosts for a convivial picnic lunch. In the evening, you cross the Nile by traditional boat to visit the illuminated Luxor Temple. Built under Amenhotep III and extended by Ramesses II, this sanctuary dedicated to Amun, Mut and Khonsu reveals itself in all its majesty under the golden glow of the spotlights. Day 3: Cycling in the Footsteps of Yesterday and Today's Egyptians

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
This morning you mount your bicycles for a day off the beaten track, discovering another face of ancient Egypt. You cross the lush palm groves and traditional villages of the west bank of Luxor, where rural life perpetuates ancestral gestures. Your first stop takes you to the Valley of the Nobles, a vast necropolis gathering the tombs of the empire's elite: viziers, priests, governors, scribes. Unlike royal tombs, here it is scenes of daily life, festivals, agricultural work and religious rites that dominate the walls, offering a precious and moving testimony of New Kingdom Egyptian society. You continue to the Valley of the Artisans, known as Deir el-Medina. This unique village was inhabited for over 400 years by a community of elite craftsmen chosen to decorate the royal tombs of the Valley of the Kings. The site still preserves their homes, their small temple and remarkable tombs, where a more personal and intimate expression of Egyptian faith and art can be felt. In the afternoon, you continue on foot through the village of Boayrate, immersed in Egypt today. A stroll between mud-brick houses, enclosed gardens, sugar cane, banana trees and mango plants, with warm encounters with the inhabitants. Included visits: Valley of the Nobles, Valley of the Artisans (Deir el-Medina).

Day 4: Departure to Aswan - Temple of Philae - Night at the Hotel

Lunch Dinner
This morning, departure by train or minibus to Aswan, about 250 km south of Luxor, at the gateway to Nubia. On arrival, quick check-in at the hotel to drop your bags. After lunch, you set off to discover the Temple of Philae, nicknamed the pearl of Egypt. Built in honour of the great goddess Isis, this emblematic sanctuary was one of the last bastions of ancient Egyptian worship, still active in the Roman era. Originally located on the island of Philae, the temple was moved stone by stone to the neighbouring island of Agilkia to save it from flooding after the construction of the old dam. Its architecture, blending Ptolemaic finesse and Greco-Roman influences, transports you through more than two thousand years of sacred history. In the evening, immersion in the warm atmosphere of the Aswan souk: a labyrinth of stalls overflowing with spices. Dinner in a local restaurant in the heart of the souk. Included visits: Temple of Philae.

Day 5: Boarding the Felucca - Village Walk - Navigation towards Kom Ombo

Lunch Dinner
In the morning, we head to the embarkation point to board our felucca. A warm welcome from our team of sailors - a full crew on board (captain, sailor and cook). All meals are served on the felucca: a full breakfast, a picnic lunch with mixed salads and mezze assortments, and a hot, complete, home-cooked dinner in the evening. The felucca deck is covered with comfortable mattresses and cushions, and you are protected from the wind in the evening by canvas sheets and a mosquito net. The feluccas have no toilets, but you can easily reach the banks at any time during navigation. In the evening, a privacy tent is set up on the banks for your comfort. After boarding, the sailors set sail towards the villages of Gharb Assouan. You set off on a two-hour walk to meet the locals and discover the culture and traditions of the Nile valley people, their fields and their animals. Return to the boat for lunch prepared by the cook. The felucca then resumes its course, gliding slowly northward towards Kom Ombo. The banks drift past in absolute calm, between mango tree fields, palm trees and birds. At nightfall, you anchor on a wild bank. Dinner under the stars, night on board - rustically simple but unforgettable, rocked by the lapping of the Nile. Note: Optional Abu Simbel excursion available on this day (early morning departure, return to Aswan in the afternoon before boarding).

Day 6: Sailing - Daraw Souk - Temple of Kom Ombo

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
The day rises slowly over the Nile, and you take breakfast on board the felucca as it glides peacefully on the calm waters. The gentle morning light wraps the banks, palm trees reflect in the river, and the silence is broken only by the rustle of the sail. After two hours of quiet navigation, you reach Daraw, a small Nubian town nestled between the river and the desert, famous for its camel market. You disembark for a two-hour walk through its lively neighbourhoods: mango and banana tree plantations, ochre-walled alleyways, local cafes and craftsmen's workshops. Along the way, a discreet Coptic church and white-domed mausoleums of venerated local saints. The walk takes you to the fruit and vegetable souk, a true festival of colours, merchants' cries and the scent of spices. Return to the felucca for a well-earned lunch, then resume navigation northward towards Kom Ombo. In the afternoon, you visit the Temple of Kom Ombo, one of the most singular sanctuaries of ancient Egypt. This Greco-Roman temple from the 2nd century BC is unique for its perfectly symmetrical structure, honouring two opposing forces: Haroeris (Horus the Elder), falcon-headed god of light and wisdom; and Sobek, crocodile-headed god of waters, fertility and primordial instinct. Its walls display fascinating bas-reliefs including one of the oldest known agricultural calendars and engravings of surgical instruments, testifying to ancient medical knowledge. Dinner and night on the Nile under the starry sky. Included visits: Daraw Souk, Temple of Kom Ombo.
7

Day 7: Vehicle to Edfu - Temple of Edfu - Temple of Karnak

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
You take the road towards Luxor, spiritual heart of ancient Egypt. Along the way, a stop at Edfu to visit one of the best-preserved temples in the country, dedicated to the falcon god Horus. Built during the Ptolemaic era, this grandiose sanctuary hosted the great religious ceremonies of the Greek-origin pharaohs, testifying to the fusion between Egyptian and Hellenistic cultures. Admire the bas-reliefs of Edfu: sacred frescoes where Horus, god of light, triumphs over Seth, symbol of chaos. On arrival in Luxor, a warm welcome from your hosts. An authentic lunch awaits at the homestay. The afternoon is devoted to the discovery of the Temple of Karnak, the immense sanctuary dedicated to Amun-Ra. Built and extended over more than two millennia, it reflects the will of the pharaohs to affirm their divine legitimacy through the ages. Sphinxes, the titanic columns of the hypostyle hall, the obelisks of Hatshepsut, majestic pylons: each relief celebrates the king as guarantor of Maat, the divine order, and mediator between men and gods. Included visits: Temple of Edfu, Temple of Karnak.
