The Journey

From Aswan to Silsila, a meeting with an Egypt that few see and many seek.

For those who dream of a slow, deep journey, as close as possible to the gods, the people and the river. Far from crowds and standardised cruises, you board a traditional felucca, carried by the north winds and guided by sailors who are true heirs of the river.

This journey is far more than a cruise: it is an initiatory crossing, a deep immersion into the soul of the Nile. For four days, you glide without engine or commotion, between the temples of Upper Egypt, the fertile banks and the ochre-walled Nubian villages. Each stop becomes an encounter, each landscape a revelation.

Sand, water, wind — everything here speaks a forgotten language: the language of an unspoilt Egypt. Nights under the stars, local cuisine prepared on board, drifting with the current — every moment embodies a precious and simple art of living. A journey of sensory awakening and wonder. All it takes is to cast off the moorings and listen to the Nile.

The Felucca

Our traditional felucca — a lateen-sail Nubian sailing vessel without engine, around ten metres long — allows you to navigate as the ancient Egyptians did, carried by the north winds and guided by experienced river sailors. The crew of captain, sailor and cook ensures your comfort and safety throughout the journey.

The deck is arranged with comfortable mattresses and cushions for daytime relaxation. In the evening, canvas sheets are installed to create an intimate sleeping space. Warm blankets are provided, and a mosquito net is set up each night. Meals are fully prepared on board: a complete breakfast, a picnic lunch with mixed salads and fresh fruit, and a hot home-cooked dinner each evening. Water, tea and coffee are available on board at all times. Where the felucca does not have onboard toilet facilities, the boat moors at the banks whenever needed, and a private toilet tent is set up on the bank each evening.

Itinerary

Day 1: Philae, the Pearl of Isis – Navigation towards

Lunch Dinner
In the morning, your French-speaking guide meets you at your hotel, station or Aswan airport. Together you head to one of Egypt's most beautiful temples: Philae, a jewel set upon the waters of the Nile. You discover a sanctuary dedicated to Isis, goddess of love, magic and eternal life. Guided by a passionate Egyptologist, you plunge into the founding stories of the myth of Osiris, among elegant architecture, sculpted columns and bas-reliefs alive with gods and rituals. Your guide also reveals the spiritual history of the site: the last pagan temple to close its doors to Christianity, it was partially transformed into a church in the 6th century. Today relocated to the island of Agilkia, this temple saved from the waters retains all its magic. After this spiritual encounter, you make your way to the banks of the Nile. Your felucca awaits, sail unfurled, ready to dance with the wind. The crew welcomes you with warmth and simplicity. The moorings are cast off, the wind rises gently — and the adventure begins. Lunch is served on board as the felucca glides peacefully along the river. The afternoon unfolds at the rhythm of the Nile: Nubian villages with colourful walls, children playing on the bank, swaying palm groves, mango tree fields. At nightfall, the felucca anchors in a peaceful cove. Dinner is served under the stars in a simple and warm atmosphere. Included visits: Temple of Philae.

Day 2: Daraw Town – Temple of Kom Ombo – Navigation towards Fares

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
At sunrise, the Nile awakens in golden light. You take breakfast on board, then moor near Daraw, a small market town still untouched by mass tourism. With your guide, you set off on foot to explore this everyday Egypt — lively alleyways, a neighbourhood Coptic church and the vibrant Daraw souk, once famous for its dromedary trade. Stalls overflow with ripe fruit, freshly picked vegetables and fragrant herbs; colours burst, voices ring out, scents of spices and coriander intermingle. A warm and intense morning where Egypt reveals itself in all its vitality. After the souk, you travel to Kom Ombo, where a unique perfectly symmetrical temple rises on a bend of the Nile, dedicated to two opposing deities: Sobek, the crocodile god of chaotic waters and fertility, and Horus the Elder, the solar falcon and protector of cosmic order. Your guide reveals the Ptolemaic architecture, refined reliefs, a remarkable nilotic calendar carved in stone, and surgical instruments sculpted in an annex room — proof of the scientific knowledge of the priests. The visit concludes at the sacred crocodile museum. Back on the felucca, the sails are hoisted and the wind carries you north. At nightfall, the felucca anchors near the village of Fares, in a secret bend of the river. Included visits: Daraw Souk, Temple of Kom Ombo, Sacred Crocodile Museum.

Day 3: Walk in Fares – Gebel Silsila Quarry Site

Breakfast Lunch Dinner
After breakfast on board, you set off for an approximately two-hour walk along the peaceful Nile paths, through plantations of date palms, banana trees and mango trees, filled with birdsong. Then appears Fares, a vibrant and colourful village where hand-painted pilgrimage scenes decorate the house facades. You stroll through the alleyways, greet the inhabitants and exchange smiles — a suspended moment where time dissolves in the gentleness of the Nile and human warmth. Return to the felucca for lunch, then north towards Gebel Silsila — where the stone speaks and nature remembers. The imposing rocky barrier of Silsila gradually emerges. This site, a true mineral cathedral, was one of the greatest quarry centres of pharaonic Egypt. From the New Kingdom through to the Greco-Roman era, the sandstone that built the temples of Karnak, Edfu and Kom Ombo was extracted here. The rock faces still bear the marks of quarrymen from over 3,000 years ago. But Gebel Silsila is not only a quarry — it is a forgotten place of worship where priests paid homage to Sobek and Amun-Ra. The felucca anchors on a sandy beach — a refreshing swim in the Nile may well be irresistible. Dinner on board under a sky full of stars. Included visits: Village of Fares walk, Gebel Silsila.

Day 4: Vehicle to Luxor – Temple of Edfu – End of the Adventure

Breakfast
After a final breakfast on board, it is time to bid farewell to the crew, whose warmth and smiles have accompanied every moment of this river journey. You depart by vehicle towards Luxor. En route, a stop at Edfu, where one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt stands tall, dedicated to Horus the falcon god. According to mythology, it was here that Horus fought his final battle against Seth, god of chaos. Your Egyptologist guide brings to life the scenes carved on the temple walls: Horus piercing Seth in the form of a hippopotamus, the tribunal of the gods and the triumph of the young god — symbol of the victory of order over disorder. Each year the temple also hosted the Feast of the Beautiful Meeting, when the goddess Hathor descended the Nile from Dendara to reunite with Horus — a joyful procession celebrating sacred union, fertility and cosmic renewal. The adventure ends gently in Luxor, but the Nile continues to flow within you. Included visits: Temple of Edfu.
