Dendera & Abydos Temples Day Trip from Luxor

The experience
Overview
An early start carries you north along the Nile through sugar-cane country to Dendera, where the Temple of Hathor stands virtually intact beneath a roof few visitors realize they can climb. Inside, ceilings of vivid blue retain their original pigment: winged sun discs, the goddess Nut swallowing the evening sun, and the circular zodiac that has fascinated astronomers for two centuries.
Descend into mysterious crypts hidden within the temple walls where priests once kept cult objects, then emerge onto the roof for a rare perspective over the surrounding floodplain. Your Egyptologist explains the healing pilgrimages that drew the sick to sleep within Hathor's sanctuary hoping for divine dreams.
Continue to Abydos, the holiest of Egyptian burial sites and goal of millions of ancient pilgrims. In the exquisitely carved Temple of Seti I, study the Abydos King List — a chronological roll call of 76 pharaohs — and stand in the eerie subterranean Osireion, a monument still debated by scholars today. Return to Luxor by early evening after a riverside lunch.
